• New York State Department of Labor - Code Rule 56 Asbestos: NYS DOL Code Rule 56 requires the identification of asbestos-containing materials (ACM) whenever all or part of a building or structure will be demolished, renovated, remodeled or repaired. What does this mean to you? Your codes department will require a Asbestos Survey to be performed to identify ACM.

• NYS DOL Asbestos Abatement Homeowner Exemption: This document outlines that code rule 56 does not apply to owner-occupied AND single-family dwellings WHERE the owner performs the work. If the owner is not the occupant, dwelling contains multiple families and/or hiring a contractor to perform the work. Code 56 applies.
